our story

Hello! I’m Margaret, the flower farmer and florist behind Ballard Urban Flowers.

Good things grow in small places. I’ve always been drawn to the challenge of how to make the most of small urban growing spaces. In 2020, I decided to take the leap and launched Ballard Urban Flowers, converting what had previously been our family's vegetable garden into a sustainable flower farm to produce hyper-local flowers for my community.

I take pride in a high-quality variety of flowers, harvested at their peak of freshness, with refined style and color. I use organic, sustainable practices - no pesticides and herbicides - and utilize growing practices that are light on the land and environment.

I spent over a decade in the land conservation profession before leaving my job to spend more time with my young daughter and manage the growing complexities of life during COVID.

Balancing this flower business and a toddler certainly keeps me on my toes, but it is a joy to have my daughter see me stretch my wings and try out this new endeavor.

Starting in 2021 we have expanded operations, as our neighbors have graciously allowed us to grow flowers on their property as well. With the expansion comes even more dahlias! I’ve quickly fallen in love with growing these, and have tripled our plantings for this year. I look forward to sharing the new color palettes and textures with you all this summer. Make sure to check out our Instagram page for the latest updates.

I look forward to sharing more of these beautiful blooms this year, and I hope they can bring the same joy and sparkle to your homes as they do to ours!
